If you are looking to purchase a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet when it arrives on Feb. 9, you should probably perform a search on Amazon.com for microSDXC cards. A 64GB Surface Pro tablet, accomplishment cheap at $899 sans keyboard or $1029 with the Type Cover, will have only 23GB of interior space after Windows 8 is installed, Microsoft said on Tuesday.
A Microsoft representative said, in a very statement,
23GB for user files and programs isn't much when one looks at the height and width of some programs.
It's tough to figure out why the 128GB version just has 83GB of storage. When one does the math, you'd assume it could have 23GB + 64GB of 87GB of storage (as well as in this case, every GB counts). At any rate, it would appear that Windows 8 will suck up about 45GB of storage. Let's remember all the temporary storage Windows uses to cache files for various reasons (browser, installations, etc., etc.) and you may see this is actually a problem.
Microsoft also responded with some suggestions:
We'd actually more concerned with program installation than data file storage. Thus, for people, the microSDXC card is the greatest one. Note, however, that it could need to be extremely fast automobile end user desired to run a program from it. Thus, we may recommend you receive at least a Class 10 card. We'd also recommend using highly regarded and brand name cards.
The not enough available storage about the 64GB Surface Pro shojuld not be a surprise to Windows users. The Windows 8 Pro used about the tablet is the same as on your familiar currently shipping Windows laptop, no one could call that OS petite.
The dependence on a microSDXC card adds more salt into the wounds of the considering a Surface Pro tablet. It would seem the lowest-cost usable version is not a 64GB tablet + a Type Cover, or $1,029, but a 128GB version + a Type Cover + a 64GB microSXC card or $999 + $130 + approximately $65 for that card, or $1,184 -- also remember sales tax.
