My phone rang this evening also it was Jim Campbell at stake, calling from your Fort Worth hospital where he's still coping with his horrific crash three weeks ago. Four weeks ago I wrote regarding how Jim had ridden 30,000 miles in thirty days to increase money for muscular dystrophy.
Jim was very upbeat and said he hopes to be removed in the hospital in a few days. He suffered a broken neck, hip, and pelvis inside the crash but feels fortunate.
"Not too many people would've walked faraway from what I experienced," he was quoted saying. "I'll recover fully."
The accident occurred when traffic inside the left-hand lane slowed abruptly. Jim pulled in to the median but after he did the vehicle that had been in front of him did the identical, hitting Jim and his Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic. This drove Jim in to the road divider and, as he said, "I went from 70 to zero in a second." A hole in the helmet attests on the force from the impact.
"That guy threw a card within my deck that I wasn't ready to try out," he explained.
While numerous have been concerned for Jim's well-being, Jim was feeling bad about his failure to obtain last touch with folks wanting to reach him. The woman he'd been working with on the Muscular Dystrophy Association we had not learned about his accident until he called her yesterday. Of course she was shocked. And he was calling me to apologize for not returning my emails. Believe me, I told him no worries over it.
Jim's wife Beth had this to say on Jim's 30K for MDA Facebook page: "Jim finally got moved for the PT floor within the hospital. He had an approximate 1st day and was at plenty of pain today. Recovery is arriving along, slowly but surely. Time and prayers are what Jim needs. Thank you to any or all who've sent flowers, cards & well wishes our way. We really do appreciate them as well as you."
